At the age of 24 and with no current teaching position, I have decided to take off to Spain for a 6 week Spanish and Teaching English course. Of course once in Europe it is insane to not take advantage of other countries of which I have been dying to visit. This has left me with a 10 week adventure including living in Barcelona and traveling to Scotland, England, Morocco, Italy, and Germany. I hope to reflect, explore, meet, and of course eat!
~ 4 cheese ravioli with carbonera sauce from the hole in the wall italian restaurant in some random back alley.
~ Ternera Durum from my favorite Kabob store on Viladomat.
~ Quiz night and Free curry dinner at Travel Bar Port on Wednesdays even though I never win.
~ Bocadillas de pollo con pepenillos en la Xampaneria (Chicken and pickle sandwich at the Champagne Sandwich Shop) ~ Walking to the beach to read. ~ Meeting new people from all over the world. ~ Daily Mass at 7:30pm at the Basillica ~ 1 € Icecream at the gelateria next door to the Basillica on my way home ~ 1 € tapas (usually my dinner) at the Travel Bar 5 blocks from my apartment after 8:00 ~ Being able to walk everwhere!
Things I now know
~ I wasn't ready to leave Barcelona.
~ You must dial 00 before the country code to call me. (This was an important thing to learn) ~ I still love McDonald French Fries . ~McDonald Chicken McNuggets aren´t that great in Spain, and there is no sweet and sour sauce so why bother. ~Artichokes are still a necessity while living in Spain! ~ I love book stores and journal stores no matter what the country. ~I have shin splints: walking on cobblestone and hard streets 15 hours a day. ~What SPAM tastes like, it was served in my 1€ dinner with egg and pasta. It wasn´too bad. ~I wear a size 38 shoe in Europe. ~Just because you are speaking Spanish, in Spain, does not mean they will understand you. ~I am alright with wearing socks 2 days if it means less laundry.
Raquel
